GAIA, Myanmar: Regional meeting in Asia and thematic group on "Climate and poverty"
The Gaia Sustainability Management Institute (GSMI) was officially founded in 2013 in Yangon, Myanmar. This local organization has branches in different regions of the country.
GSMI supports community leaders, local organizations, and schools within Burmese communities. It works to empower marginalized populations by strengthening their capacity for mutual aid and collective organization. Its goal is to promote the voice and representation of these often vulnerable and underrepresented communities in decision-making processes.
Project activities
The activities implemented aim to strengthen a regional dynamic in favor of a just ecological transition (JET) in South and Southeast Asia, initiated during the first phase of the Resilient Communities program. GAIA actively participates in the "Climate and Poverty" thematic group, thus contributing to deepening reflections and actions on the links between socio-economic vulnerability and climate change.
This initiative brings together all the partners in the Asia-Eastern Europe cluster committed to addressing the challenges of sustainable youth development. Eight partner organizations from India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia will meet for three regional workshops and several webinars. These forums will help harmonize approaches and inform the international strategy of CoRe II, particularly through its thematic and methodological working groups.
The partners involved are: Caritas Bangladesh, KMSS, MASS, BSSS, STT, NEADS, SPERI and GAIA.
