CIPCA, Bolivia: Advocacy, agroecology and rights for a just ecological transition and climate justice in Bolivia and the Amazon region

The Center for Research and Promotion of Peasantry (CIPCA) is a Bolivian non-governmental organization founded by Jesuits in 1970. Today, it is one of the leading rural development NGOs in Bolivia. Its work, carried out at the national and sub-regional levels, is based on research, advocacy, and field intervention.

The mission of CIPCA is to contribute to the effective exercise of the civil, cultural, economic, political, social and environmental rights of the country's indigenous peasant peoples and, on this basis, to participate in the construction of a democratic, equitable, intercultural, economically viable and environmentally respectful state.

The CoRe II project

The CoRe project aims to strengthen institutional and territorial capacities in environmental governance, agroecology, and the solidarity economy in six ecoregions of Bolivia. The intervention seeks to produce tools, methodologies, and evidence that integrate the principles of climate justice across all sectors.

The project relies in particular on the systematization of community-based experiences, the strengthening of the School for Leaders' training programs, and the integration of agroecological economic initiatives with local markets. These actions aim to improve access to healthy food, preserve ecosystems, and promote the equitable participation of women and youth.

The project will directly benefit 3,400 people and indirectly approximately 25,900 people.

Planned activities

  • Strengthening the School for Leadership Training through the systematization of co-responsibility experiences and the promotion of the participation of women and youth in community governance.

  • Development of methodological tools for environmental governance and territorial management based on climate justice criteria.

  • Documentation of seed guardian networks and agroecological producers, further research on agrobiodiversity, production of evidence, visibility of family farming and formulation of public policy proposals recognizing and promoting agroecology as a sustainable model.

  • Conducting local and regional market research, developing innovation and management methodologies for sustainable businesses, and producing communication materials to position agroecological products in fairs, marketing channels and solidarity networks.

  • Strategic support for ongoing territorial processes to assess, systematize and make visible the level of integration of climate justice criteria and environmental services in risk management plans and community territorial planning instruments.
