CARITAS MAURITANIE

WEST AFRICA - MAURITANIA

Caritas Mauritania: Thematic Group on Agroecology

Founded in 1972, Caritas Mauritania has adapted its interventions over the years in accordance with changes in the humanitarian and socio-economic context of the country.

Its actions focus primarily on:

  • Food security;

  • Integration and community cohesion;

  • Access to income-generating activities.

Training is a central pillar of its integrated local development approach (neighborhood or village). This includes, in particular: community organization, literacy, vocational training and initiation, as well as support for local planning.

Caritas Mauritania prioritizes close support, provided by decentralized outreach teams in its areas of operation. Its approach is resolutely participatory: stakeholders—beneficiary populations and local authorities—are involved in all stages of projects, from identifying needs to evaluating actions, including defining responses and their implementation.

Involvement in the agroecology thematic group

Caritas Mauritania is a member of the thematic group on agroecology, supported by partners in the Sahel (Togo, Benin, Mauritania and Senegal).

This group is part of the continuation of the CoRe I program and aims to promote the generalization and sustainable anchoring of agroecological practices within the supported communities, by strengthening local capacities and territorial dynamics.
