CAAAP, Peru: Amazon, environmental governance and the preservation of our common home

The Amazonian Center for Anthropology and Practical Application (CAAAP) is a non-profit civil association, founded in 1974 by the bishops of the Peruvian jungle. It works to serve vulnerable populations in the Amazon, particularly indigenous peoples.

CAAAP conducts training, consulting, awareness-raising, political advocacy, research, publication and dissemination activities, as well as specialized advice and academic teaching.

The CoRe II project

As part of the CoRe II project, the initiative aims to strengthen Indigenous territorial governance in the Peruvian Amazon and promote a harmonious relationship between people, nature, and the state. The project gives particular priority to territorial security and the titling of community lands.

It also seeks to consolidate decolonizing narratives that recognize the value of Indigenous knowledge and contribute to well-being. The project will be implemented in collaboration with Kichwa, Awajún, Shawi, Asháninka, and Kukama-Kukamiria organizations to strengthen proposals for self-government, territorial protection, and collective rights.

Special attention will be paid to the political participation of Indigenous women, particularly in violence prevention and territorial defense. The project will directly benefit 450 people and indirectly benefit 228,500 people.
