OCDI Caritas Togo: Project for Ecological Transition and Resilience of Rural Communities for an Inclusive and Equitable Life (TER-VIE)
OCDI (Organisation de la Charité pour un Développement Intégral) Caritas Togo is the Catholic Church's charitable organization in Togo. It works primarily in the areas of health, education, rural development, providing drinking water to village communities, and promoting women's rights and leadership.
The TER-VIE project is implemented by OCDI/Caritas Togo Nationale, OCDI/Caritas Dapaong, OCDI/Caritas Kara, OCDI/Caritas Aného, the Tambimong Ogaro Rural Animation Centre (CARTO) as well as the Association of Young Adults and Rural Catholics (JARC).
CoRe II Project
Implemented by a consortium comprised of OCDI Caritas Togo (coordinator), CARTO, and JARC, the project aims to contribute to the emergence of inclusive, supportive, and resilient rural communities living in harmony with their environment. It is based on valuing cultural diversity, promoting sustainable agroecological practices, and the responsible management of natural resources.
The intervention strategy is based on training local stakeholders, providing technical support, fostering collective organization, and establishing participatory processes at the community level. The expected outcomes are better-structured, more skilled, and more cohesive communities, capable of ensuring sustainable food security, strengthening social cohesion, and developing a more resilient local economy. The number of direct beneficiaries is 1,850 and the number of indirect beneficiaries is 424,000.
Planned activities
The main activities of the project include:
Promoting peer-to-peer exchanges of indigenous knowledge and know-how
Supporting producers in the organic certification process
The creation and support of spaces dedicated to women's empowerment, promoting the sharing of experiences, skills development, and the development of female leadership.
The implementation of agroecological practices, including the collective production of compost, the adoption of water-efficient irrigation systems, the construction and use of biodigesters, integrated water and soil fertility management, and the production of biochar
Strengthening community empowerment through awareness-raising activities and experimentation with Change-Oriented Approaches (COA)
