CARITAS KAOLACK

WEST AFRICA - SENEGAL

CARITAS KAOLACK SENEGAL: For a just ecological transition of territories in the dioceses of Kaolack and Dakar

The actions of Caritas Kaolack (coordinator) and Caritas Dakar are primarily focused on sustainable food and nutrition security, environmental and climate protection, local economic development, social action and justice, and support for market gardening for women. They also aim to support women's economic empowerment through income-generating activities and to strengthen the resilience of communities.

CoRe II Project

In a context where the territorialization of development occupies a central place in public policies and responds to the growing expectations of communities, significant spatial and, above all, social disparities persist. Women and young people often remain marginalized in their access to basic services and local governance bodies, both in urban and rural areas.

Faced with this reality, the project aims to contribute to reducing these imbalances. Its overall objective is to promote community rights through organizational, inclusive, and technical strengthening, based on an approach that integrates human beings and nature, with a view to sustainable development for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations in the dioceses of Dakar and Kaolack. The number of direct beneficiaries is around 28,000 and the number of indirect beneficiaries is around 270,000.

Main activities:

  • Raising awareness among the population through educational talks, mass community mobilizations, and the broadcasting of radio spots on human rights and social justice

  • Advocacy efforts with administrative, customary, religious and political authorities

  • Establishment and consolidation of local consultation frameworks, genuine spaces for inclusive dialogue bringing together all social categories, enabling the addressing of major issues such as access to rights, sanitation and the sustainable management of natural resources

  • Protecting community spaces, reforestation campaigns and promoting assisted natural regeneration, accompanied by training and awareness sessions

  • Training and support for producers

  • Capitalizing on and managing knowledge through workshops for sharing experiences and exchanging information
