AS-PTA, Brazil: Agroecological Transition: Promoting Social Justice and Ecological Sustainability through the Reconfiguration of Food Systems

Agricultura Familiar e Agroecologia (AS-PTA) is a Brazilian non-profit civil law association which, since 1983, has been working to strengthen family farming and promote sustainable rural development in Brazil.

AS-PTA has contributed to the creation of several civil society networks and plays an active role in promoting sustainable rural development.

These networks constitute both spaces for collective learning and frameworks for concerted action bringing together organizations and social movements, with the aim of influencing the development, implementation and monitoring of public policies.

CoRe II Project

The project aims to strengthen the Regional Movement of Women Farmers in south-central Paraná State and to support the organization of local rural youth groups. These two groups are linked to the Triunfo Collective, a territorial coalition of formal and informal family farming organizations, supported by AS-PTA. The project will directly benefit 200 people and indirectly benefit approximately 3,000.

The project's actions to promote agroecology will focus on:

  • Direct advice on intensive production in vegetable gardens

  • Promoting the management and conservation of agrobiodiversity

  • The construction of territorial markets

  • Improving access to public policies

Through network action articulated at the local, regional and national levels, the project will support the realization of exchanges promoting the sharing of experiences, the strengthening of organizational capacities and the coordination of actions of political impact between community groups of women, rural youth and leaders of family farming organizations in the State of Paraná.
