Migrations
Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Program (OKUP) - 2024
This policy brief aims to bring on-the-ground realities and community voices into the global policy discourse to build a deeper understanding of the real-life challenges facing those making “migration decisions” as they strive to cope with and recover from climate disasters, and to advocate for rights-based, community-driven bottom-up durable solutions.
The analysis is based on the findings from our longitudinal research in the Sundarbans region, mainly in the Khulna and Satkhira districts of Bangladesh, conducted since 2018.
Data and testimonies show that people attempt to use seasonal, short-term, or temporary migration both within the country and abroad, to build financial resilience, but also that they are frequently unable to do so.
