IGSSS - 2023

This Capitalisation process which is a part of the CoRe project, is to harvest learnings for use by IGSSS across its Pan-India multi-thematic intervention area, not restricted to Urban Programming alone. The Capitalisation is based on IGSSS’s experiences in Raipur initiated in 2015 supported by SCCF. The Capitalisation Experience is largely based on the initial phases of 2015-2018 during which it was implemented by IGSSS’s implementing Partner – Cohesion Foundation Trust (CFT). IGSSS acknowledges CFT’s work in providing a solid foundation upon which the collectivisation and the strong Federation of domestic workers has grown and flourished.

IGSSS chose this theme for capitalization for several reasons. Urban poor typically reside in unplanned squatter settlements with poor infrastructure and limited access to basic services and earn an insecure living from the diverse range of work known as the informal sector. Cumulatively, these combine and reinforce their marginalisation forcing them to low standards of living, bereft of opportunities for a better life. The domestic worker’s collectives in Raipur have demonstrated the power of community in taking a lead role in transforming their lives and that of the communities in which they reside.
