Doña Betsabé and Don Máximo live in the community of Chuncarcota , in San Andrés de Machaca (La Paz, Bolivia), on the altiplano.

After working in the city for a long time, they returned home in 2020 to dedicate themselves to raising llamas. In their region, many believe it's impossible to make a living; they have proven otherwise.

With the support of CIPCA, they focused on the genetic improvement of their herd and chose quality over quantity.

Today, it's their neighbors who come to them for advice.

This document highlights how they achieved this, and what remains to be done to ensure that llama farming is better recognized and finds its market outlets. This story is part of the systematization efforts undertaken by CIPCA with the support of CIEDEL.
