This article documents the reforestation experience carried out in the municipality of San Pedro de Totora, Bolivia , in a context where this type of initiative has historically had little success.

The document summarizes the four key areas of expertise mobilized by the technical team to successfully complete two planting campaigns, resulting in a 78% survival rate for 3,500 plants – among which

• establishing relationships of trust with local authorities

• adapting the project to the realities of the territory

• the use of a technical innovation such as forest hydrogel

• the gradual transfer of the process to the municipal government to ensure its sustainability.
